Joao Fiadeiro
Portugal
João Fiadeiro (1965) is a Portuguese performer, choreographer, researcher, teacher and curator. He was the artistic director of ATELIER RE.AL, a structure that played a major role in the development of contemporary dance and transdisciplinary initiatives in Portugal. In the 90s, João Fiadeiro studied and practiced contact-improvisation intensively, which led him to continue and systematize his own research on improvisation under the name of Real Time Composition. This research led him to coordinate workshops in several schools and universities around the world.
Developed by João Fiadeiro over the past twenty years, Real-Time Composition makes the subject of substantial critical work. Note a compilation of articles by Fernanda Eugénio (anthropologist) and Joao Fiadeiro on the website ofCentro de Investigação ArtÃstica e Criatividade CientÃfica from the University of Chile, as well as the excellent summary produced by David-Alexandre Guéniot, Emma (Romain) Bigé and Joao Fiadeiro:Real-Time Composition, Anatomy of a Decision, Ghost books, Lisboa, 2017.
Certain elements of analysis have already been produced by Alice Godfroy within the framework of artistic collaborations carried out at the University of Nice Côte d'Azur. Mathieu Bouvier and Alice Godfroy also took part in RTC practice days as part of the Improvisation summer School (September 2022, Lérins Islands. December 2022, La place de la danse, CDCN Toulouse).
