Lisa Nelson (born 1949 in New York City) is an American dancer, improviser and choreographer. In the 1990s, she developed a practice of collective improvisation, the Tuning Scores, for which she was internationally recognized.

Lisa Nelson's Tuning scores have a key place in the conceptual development of this research project. Developed over fifty years, these practices began to arouse critical interest at the turn of the 2000s. A special issue of the magazine Nouvelles de danse was devoted to them in 2001:Seen from the Body, Lisa Nelson, movement and perception. For fifteen years, the websitesarma.be collects a good number of articles and interviews around the work of Lisa Nelson: http://www.conversationsinvermont.net/

We should also mention the study days devoted to extending the Tuning Scores to the fields of research in the human sciences:https://www.cnd.fr/fr/program/1658-journees-d-etudes

The team members are familiar with the work of Lisa Nelson, and are indebted to her for profound inspirations in their endeavors. Some elements of analysis have already been produced by Mathieu Bouvier, Jérémy Damian and Emma Bigé in their respective doctoral theses. The study of Lisa Nelson's work also involves an approach to her European "pollination" for the past twenty years: indeed, many collectives practice tuning scores or variations, with or without Lisa Nelson. This Tuning score community, and its links with the social field, are also an important field. One thinks, for example, of the work of Pascale Gille and Caroline Boillet in France, Anouk Llaurens and Stéphanie Auberville in Belgium…
